Riley ended up having a pleasant lunch with her mother. They avoided talking about Rowdy, Tommy, or Will, and just focused on their relationship. Diana admitted to Riley that she was embarrassed about who she was as a person before she married Tommy. Also, she admitted that she only married Tommy because she knew that he would be successful. Diana explained that she was incapable of loving anyone until she had Riley. She admitted to all the mistakes that she’d made as a parent, and even lying about Tommy’s past, but she didn’t regret any of it. This was the first time that Riley saw her mother as a weak and vulnerable woman. She saw her mother as a survivor and now had an understanding of why Diana was such a bitch. Riley definitely had a deeper respect for her mother, and it compelled her to go see her father.

Riley walked into her father’s office and came face to face with Jeanette. Jeanette had an uneasy smile on her face because she wasn’t sure how Riley was about to act. It surprised her at dinner that Riley had such an angry response. She thought Riley would be more understanding, but Jeanette figured it was difficult to find out that she had been messing around with Tommy for as long as she had.

“Good afternoon, Jeanette,” said Riley. “Is my father in?”

“Good afternoon, Riley,” Jeanette replied. “And yes, he is. Let me tell him you’re here.”

“Thank you,” Riley replied. She looked down at the floor for a second. “Jeanette, I would like to apologize to you for what happened the other night at the restaurant.”

“It’s alright, Riley. I can understand how you must have felt,” Jeanette replied.

“But that doesn’t excuse my behavior,” Riley replied. “I was totally out of line, and I apologize for my behavior.” A warm smile came across Jeanette’s face.

“I accept your apology,” Jeanette replied. “And I hope nothing will change between us, sweet girl. I love both, you and your father, and I hope you understand.”

“I do,” Riley replied. “Just continue to love my father like he deserves.”

“I will,” Jeanette replied. “Now let me go get him for you.” Jeanette walked back to Tommy’s office to let him know that Riley was out front. While she waited, Riley got a text from Rowdy, asking if she’d made it home yet. Riley quickly texted back as Tommy walked out of his office.

“This is a surprise,” said Tommy. “I didn’t expect to see you anymore.”

“You’ve got jokes, as usual,” Riley replied. A big smile spread across her face as she walked up to her father. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gave him a tight squeeze. Tommy was in shock by her actions. He stood motionless for a second then wrapped his arms around his daughter. “Daddy, I’m so sorry about the other night. I’m embarrassed by how I acted toward you and Jeanette.”

“Ah, Riley, … I’m not angry at you for having mad feelings,” Tommy replied. “It was insensitive of me to spring it on you like that.
